JG1 by Gall – Technical Outerwear
EXPLORING JG1: THE INVERSION OF JUSTIN GALL'S MAINLINE
JG1 is the second line of experimental menswear designer Justin Gall, focused on technical outerwear, engineered trousers and garment systems. It was conceived as an inversion of his mainline GALL rather than a secondary or diffusion version: the same obsessions with protection, adaptability, proportion and transformation, approached with greater precision.
The line includes compact jackets, insulated parkas, elongated protective shells, wide cargo trousers and layering pieces, engineered for movement and a refined urban aesthetic.

ORIGINS & CONCEPT: WILD BECOMES CONTROLLED
Justin Gall has developed JG1 alongside his mainline for the past three years. Where the mainline moves intuitively and stays grounded in darkness, JG1 begins from a different state of mind: a separate framework built on discipline, engineering, movement and a broader colour vocabulary.
The two lines mirror each other down to small details. The Geo Mongrel boots appear in both: worn with laces untied and wild in the mainline, carefully tightened and controlled in JG1. In only three years, JG1 has grown to a network of more than 50 retailers, with its own distribution and visual identity alongside the longer-running Justin Gall label.

DESIGN LANGUAGE: FUNCTION AS A DESIGN LANGUAGE
JG1 uses function as a design language rather than as an endpoint. A hood can dramatically alter the silhouette while still serving its purpose, pockets become compositional elements as much as storage, insulation creates shape and volume becomes technical. The result sits in a fluid space between clothing and equipment.
• outerwear as the primary architecture: compact jackets, enlarged insulated volumes and elongated protective shells
• wide cargo trousers with integrated pockets, straps and carrying mechanisms
• colour used structurally: for AW26, black and charcoal move into rich brown, burgundy and bone, so one layer or volume separates visually from another
• matte against reflective: lacquered surfaces catch and distort light while quieter fabrics absorb it
MATERIALS & CRAFT: PERFORMANCE FABRICS & MODULAR ENGINEERING
Every JG1 piece is approached from an engineering-first perspective. Materials are chosen for durability, protection and lightness: waterproof and textured nylons, abrasion-resistant shells, down insulation, coated fabrics and performance linings.
The carrying system shows the approach well. JG1 jackets have straps that are visible on the inside and fully detachable, so the jacket can be worn on the back once removed, with its rear facing outward. It is a deliberate inversion of the mainline, where the straps are hidden inside the garment and the front stays visible.
WHO JG1 SPEAKS TO: URBAN NOMADS & MINIMALIST INNOVATORS
JG1 resonates with individuals who value:
• functionality and protection for urban weather and unpredictable conditions
• garments defined by technical design and engineered construction
• minimalist expression: clean lines, minimal branding, industrial attitude
• the freedom to combine JG1 with pieces from the mainline and create their own interpretation
For those seeking a fusion of performance outerwear, considered colour and refined design, JG1 offers a wardrobe built on technical clarity and practical artistry.
